Neumann TLM 102 Condenser Microphone — Nickel, Single
The Neumann TLM 102 is a compact large-diaphragm condenser microphone with a fixed cardioid pickup pattern for recording vocals and instruments. This listing is the nickel-finish single microphone, identified by Neumann catalogue number 008626. It is not the black 008627 version or the separate Studio Set supplied with an EA 4 shock mount. The standard nickel package includes the SG 2 swivel mount.
Neumann specifies a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz and a maximum sound pressure level of 144 dB at 0.5% total harmonic distortion. Its response includes a gentle presence lift above 6 kHz rather than a promise of completely flat reproduction. An integrated pop screen helps control breath noise, but does not replace suitable placement or a separate pop filter when needed.
The microphone uses a three-pin XLR connection and requires P48 phantom power, specified as 48 V plus or minus 4 V. A compatible microphone input, cable, support stand and recording system are separate requirements. The cardioid pattern favours sound from the front; it does not remove room reflections or background sound. It is not a USB microphone or a standalone recorder.
